Hace unos días terminé de ver la serie co-producida por Tom Hanks y Steven Spielberg: Band Of Brothers, y el azar quiso que hoy me encontrara con unas líneas de M. Chabon que me resultaron particularmente acertadas a la luz de las impresiones que todavía tengo de los diez capítulos que conforman la serie. Corto y pego.
A short story is a commando operation. It has a specific objetive, you have to get in qickly, set your charges, and get out, leaving the reader to be caught up in the blast. A novel is more like a war: always begun in the highest enthusiasm, with full confidence of right, and of the certainty of it all being over by Christmas. Two years later you're in the trenches and mud, with defeat a real possibility, doubting everything, in particular the wisdom of the commanding general.
